Chopta, located in the Rudraprayag district of Uttarakhand, is a picturesque destination often referred to as the "Mini Switzerland of India." It is surrounded by stunning natural beauty and offers a variety of attractions for nature lovers, trekkers, and spiritual seekers.
Tungnath is the highest Shiva temple in the world, situated at an altitude of 3,680 meters. The trek to Tungnath is about 3.5 kilometers from Chopta and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The temple is an important pilgrimage site and attracts devotees and trekkers alike.
Chandrashila, meaning "Moon Rock," is located at an altitude of 4,000 meters and is a popular trekking destination. The trek from Tungnath to Chandrashila is about 1.5 kilometers and offers panoramic views of the Himalayas, including peaks like Nanda Devi, Trishul, and Chaukhamba. It's a favorite spot for sunrise and sunset views.
Deoria Tal is a serene lake located about 3 kilometers from Sari Village, which is around 22 kilometers from Chopta. The lake is known for its crystal-clear waters and the reflection of the Chaukhamba peaks. It's a great spot for camping, bird watching, and enjoying the tranquility of nature.
The Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary, also known as the Kedarnath Musk Deer Sanctuary, is a protected area that surrounds Chopta. The sanctuary is home to diverse flora and fauna, including the endangered musk deer. It offers opportunities for wildlife viewing, bird watching, and nature walks.
Ukhimath is a small town located about 31 kilometers from Chopta. It serves as the winter seat of the Kedarnath and Madhyamaheshwar temples when they are closed during the winter months. Ukhimath offers beautiful views of the Himalayas and is an important pilgrimage site.
Rohini Bugyal is a lush green meadow located en route to Tungnath. It's a picturesque spot for resting and soaking in the natural beauty during the trek. The bugyal (meadow) is adorned with colorful flowers and offers a peaceful environment.
Kalimath Temple, dedicated to Goddess Kali, is located about 45 kilometers from Chopta. It's one of the 108 Shakti Peethas in India and is considered highly sacred. The temple is situated on the banks of the Saraswati River and attracts many devotees.
